Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. (I Corinthians 9:24 NIV)
The verse above reminds Christians that we need to “run to win.” That is to say, we need to do the utmost best we can in our Christian lives for the glory of God. We need to work hard to gain the eternal prize we are promised for obedience. The verse above warns us that not all competitors win a prize. This verse, however, should not be taken out of context. We are not “competing” against other Christians. Our victory does not result in their defeat, rather success in our personal race encourages them to succeed in theirs. But our success does result in the defeat of the devil. We must compete in such a way as to defeat him.
