One of the problems with our world today is that people are too “smart.” People are sophisticated, they have a high opinion of their own intelligence. But in reality we are all really quite dumb. In order to become wise for real, you must begin by being humble. You must be willing to embrace knowledge that other people consider “foolish” or “simplistic:”
Do not deceive yourselves. If any of you think you are wise by the standards of this age, you should become “fools” so that you may become wise. (I Corinthians 3:18)
If you really want to become wise you must become a fool. You must believe in the cross of Christ. You must accept the “silly” “simplistic” notion that God created everything, and that your sins can really be forgiven on account of the blood of Jesus Christ. The gospel may seem silly, but it is simple enough for almost anyone to understand and gives clarity, purpose to life. I know it is more “sophisticated’ to chase after intellectualism, but that road only leads to confusion. If you chase after intellectualism you will end up wasting your life, never achieving anything real or lasting. But if you live your life for Christ you will have eternal reward in heaven. I know that sounds “foolish,” but I believe it fully and am not ashamed to say so.
