True believers are God’s “chosen” people. But just because we are “chosen” according to God’s sovereign will, does not mean that we have no responsibility to make our own choices. The Bible uses active command verbs in order to tell God’s elect what they are to do. We are not supposed to just coast through life acting like Zombies and robots who expect life’s circumstances to make all of our choices for us. Those of us who are alive in God need to actively choose to do what is right. Read the passage below and note all of the active command verbs that are used. These commands apply to all of God’s elect. Those who have been chosen by God have a responsibility to choose to do what is right.
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. (Colossians 3:12-14)
Now, read through these commands again, and then go and do them!
