In my last post I explained from Colossians 3:5 that there are specific attitudes and behaviors which Christians should never tolerate in themselves:
Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry (Colossians 3:5 NIV).
These vices above are normal vices for people of the world. In fact, many of them do not think that they are even wrong. They believe that it is OK to commit adultery in your mind and do other sins in your heart as long as you don’t do them for “real.” But Christians know that the heart is “real” and that God judges you for your attitudes as well as your actions. None of the things in the list above is acceptable. Every one of them is bad enough to earn you a one way ticket to hell:
Because of these, the wrath of God is coming (Colossians 3:6).
Every one of us has committed these sins. But true believers will not be condemned for eternity because Jesus has taken the wrath of God for us. But this does not give us a free pass to continue in these sins, for if we have really repented and believed then we will not want to continue in these sins even though they still appeal to our flesh. If we repent of our sins and accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, then we must take advantage of the grace and power that God gives us to reject these sins and start living holy lives:
You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. 8 But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips (Colossians 3:7-8).
