Why do we spend all of our time focusing and worrying about Earthly things? Christians need to be focusing and thinking about God every day of our lives. Our Earthly things, such as money, influence, jobs, are only of value as long as we use them from God’s glory. We should not worry about losing these things, because we do not need to have them in order to serve God.
The Bible says:
Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things (Colossians 3:2 NIV).
A Christian’s life is not defined by how much money he makes or how much recognition he has or what his college degree is. We do not live our lives according to these standards, since we have died to things of the world:
For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God (Colossians 3:3).
My “life” as it were, is not on Earth anymore. I have no future here. My life is “hidden with Christ in God,” where no one can touch it. Yes, people can beat me up, defame me, even kill me, but they cannot take away from me my eternal inheritance. That is one thing that is beyond the reach of their destructive capabilities.
Some day Jesus will come back, and true believers will be resurrected and will come with Him. We will spend eternity with Jesus, and we will not care that the former life has passed away:
When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory (Colossians 3:4 NIV).
