There are many religiously minded people who make a display of false humility in order to get you to follow them. They brag about their own experiences. Do not take anything they say at face value:
Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you. Such a person also goes into great detail about what they have seen; they are puffed up with idle notions by their unspiritual mind. (Colossians 2:18 NIV)
All true “religion” is focused not on the special deeds of the individual, but on the work of the Lord Jesus Christ:
Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. 17 These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ. (Colossians 2:16-17 ).
The religious hypocrites who claim to have a special relationship with God are actually estranged from God. They have lost their connection to the head of the church, which is Jesus:
They have lost connection with the head, from whom the whole body, supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grows as God causes it to grow. (Colossians 2:19).
Do not lose your connection with Christ! Do not brag about empty religious deeds as a substitute for true worship of and obedience to Jesus.
