Why are all those funny stories in the Bible?

These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the culmination of the ages has come.  (I Corinthians 1:11 NIV)

A lot of stories in the Bible seem quaint and simplistic. But they were written for a reason. They were written to teach us important lessons about obeying God. These stories are easy to make fun of and deride because they are written in such simple prose. They were intended to be easy to understand, and they are. The challenge is in accepting them. These easy-to-understand stories contradict our inner tenancy to rebel against God. It’s easy to understand what God wants you to do if you really desire to know. The hard part is being humble enough to obey.
