The threat of divorce should never be used as leverage in a marriage

“Husbands and wives listen to me, if you have used divorce, or the threat of divorce as a means of manipulation, you need to repent of that immediately. You need to make a solemn vow that you will not do that ever, ever again, that God has joined you together, and you will not break that apart. God has intended marriage to be for life. Young person, listen to me. Do not enter marriage, do not enter marriage with even the smallest thought that if things go bad you can simply get out and find someone who fits you better. Because you’ll take yourself, who’s almost always at least half of the problem, into your next relationship.”

excerpted from a sermon on marriage by Paul Tautges.
