A Friendly Thought for First Congregational United Church of Christ, Plymouth Wi

First Congregational United Church of Christ is located at 1405 Hwy 67. Their website is http://www.1congoucc.com/.

No single creed expresses the measure of our faith except for our common love of God and our desire to follow Christ. We believe in a nonliteral reading of the Bible, feeling that the Word is open to interpretation and growth. We seek to be open to new truths and to walk together in mutual concerns as God leads us. We also respect the beliefs and traditions of other religions. The autonomy of the local church is one of our valued principles. Our church is governed by the congregation and our elected Council and Committee members, and led by our ordained clergy according to the vision determined by the membership. We benefit from the support of the Northeast Association of the United Church of Christ, the Wisconsin Conference UCC, and of the UCC National Office in Cleveland, OH. Our goal is Doors Open, Arms Open, Minds Open.(Excerpt from the “Who We Are” page on their website).

I can see from the statement above that this church clearly desires to be a loving and caring church that recognizes that all people are God’s creation. For this reason they seek accept other people the way they are without question.

However, I do not think that this approach is necessarily as caring as it seems at first. It is not good to always reaffirm and support the way that people are. If you truly love someone else there are times you will show them how to change the things in their lives that need to be changed. None of us are perfect. We all need caring, loving, interference from others in our lives.

All human beings have a problem. We are sinners. We are greedy selfish people who hurt others maliciously, on purpose. We need to be cleansed of our sins so that we can be without sin the way that our God and Creator is without sin. This is only possible through the blood of Jesus Christ, who literally died and rose again from the dead in order to save us. God promises that if we repent of our sins and truly believe in Christ’s sacrifice for salvation, that He will take away the penalty for our sins and resurrect us sinless after we die. We will spend eternity in perfect unity with God and all the saints, completely unable to do or think a selfish thing.

God loves everyone. That is why I beg every person reading this blog to repent of their sins if they have not done this already, and believe in Christ for salvation. God loves you. He does not want you to spend the rest of your life wallowing in despair and self-pity. Rather He wants all people to come to repentance and be forgiven (II Peter 3:9).

God invites you to come to Him (Revelation 22:17).
