Then I saw a second beast, coming out of the earth. It had two horns like a lamb, but it spoke like a dragon. 12 It exercised all the authority of the first beast on its behalf, and made the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast, whose fatal wound had been healed. 13 And it performed great signs, even causing fire to come down from heaven to the earth in full view of the people. (Revelation 13:11-13)
This “second beast” is the one that we often refer to as the “false prophet” (Revelation 19:20). He will be in league with the first beast (i.e. the antichrist). He will have “two horns like a lamb,” which could mean that he will appear harmless and docile. But he will speak like “a dragon” i.e. the devil. He will perform many wonders in the name of the beast. He will amaze all those who do not believe in Jesus by doing “great signs.” He will apparently have the power to call fire down from heaven in open view. People will also be impressed because of the fatal wound of the first beast, which had been healed.
No one has any excuse to fall for his tricks when he comes. We have been warned ahead of time. Just because someone does “magic” does not mean that they are from God.
