Then the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared to sound them.
7 The first angel sounded his trumpet, and there came hail and fire mixed with blood, and it was hurled down on the earth. A third of the earth was burned up, a third of the trees were burned up, and all the green grass was burned up. (Revelation 8:6-7 NIV)
In the first trumpted judgment we see God destroying a third of the world’s vegetation. Many of God’s critics think that this shows how cruel and evil that the God of the book of Revelation is, that He would carry out this destruction. But God’s actions here are justified. Here’s a few reasons why:
1. He does not initiate this struggle against mankind. Mankind has always sinned first, God has judged later. In this particular case God is responding to the whole-sale slaughter of those who believe in Him.
2. All the vegetation on the Earth was a gift from God in the first place. He gave it to us out of His love for us, He has a right to take it back if we abuse it.
3. Many humans have blasphemed against God’s great love and power by saying that He did not create the world and the life in it. They take the world’s ecosystems for granted when they say that it created itself through natural means.God has the right to take back this good gift that has not been appreciated or even credited to Him.
