True Believers Will Literally Rule With Jesus On Earth

To the one who is victorious and does my will to the end, I will give authority over the nations27 that one ‘will rule them with an iron scepter and will dash them to pieces like pottery’—just as I have received authority from my Father. 28 I will also give that one the morning star. 29 Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. (Revelation 2:26-29 NIV)

This is a promise to true believers that we will reign with Christ during his thousand year rule of righteousness after the 7 year period known as the “tribulation” is over.  In verse 27 Jesus is quoting from a passage in the Old Testament:

He said to me, “You are my son;
today I have become your father.
Ask me,
and I will make the nations your inheritance,
    the ends of the earth your possession.
You will break them with a rod of iron;
you will dash them to pieces like pottery.” (Psalm 2:7-9 NIV)

In this passage God is speaking to King David and promising Him that His throne will be established over all the earth. This prophecy will be fulfilled in David’s descendant Jesus, who is truly God’s Son in a way that David is not. This will happen when Jesus comes to Earth and defeats the Satanically inspired forces of the Antichrist. At this time believers will be raised from the dead and share in Jesus’ kingdom:

I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony about Jesus and because of the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years(The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection.Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years. (Revelation 20:4-6 NIV).
