Will You Experience The 2nd Death?

Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. The one who is victorious will not be hurt at all by the second death. (Revelation 2:11 NIV)

These letters that Jesus dictated verbatim to the 7 churches of Asia Minor teach lessons that all of us should consider. That is why it says “whoever has ears, let them hear.” Make sure to tune your ears into this message, because it is important.

In this passage Jesus is warning that those who are not “victorious”  will be hurt by the 2nd death. You may wonder what the 2nd death is all about. Here is a description of the 2nd death that we find later on in the book:

The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done. 14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death15 Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire. (Revelation 20:13 NIV)

The “2nd death” is a horrible thing. You can avoid it if you are “victorious.”   God does not want you to perish. He has an open invitation for you to come to Him and experience true life:

The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life. (Revelation 22:17)
