Jesus holds a sharp two edged sword

“To the angel of the church in Pergamum write:

These are the words of him who has the sharp, double-edged sword. (Revelation 2:12)

In this passage Jesus depicts Himself of holding a double-edged sword. This “sword” is the word of God which has the sharpness of absolute truth. This sword destroys evil and deceit.

A believer in Christ is not afraid of this sword, because it destroys the hypocrisy and sin in our souls and helps us walk in truth through the Holy Spirit:

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. (Hebrews 4:12-13 NIV)

But if you do not believe this “sword” will destroy you, because you have refused to obey it’s commandments:

He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God14 The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. 15 Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.” He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written:

king of kings and lord of lords. (Revelation 19:13-16 NIV)
