“To the angel[a] of the church in Ephesus write:
These are the words of him who holds the seven stars in his right hand and walks among the seven golden lampstands. 2 I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance. I know that you cannot tolerate wicked people, that you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false. 3 You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary.
4 Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first. (Revelation 2:1-4)
There are many churches today that have left their “first love.” Our first love should be Jesus Christ, and the gospel message which focuses on what He did for us. This should include staying true to correct doctrine, but that is not all. It also means we need to worship and love Christ genuine with all our heart. But many churches have stopped focusing on Christ, and have begun focussing on other things instead, like blood drives, food drives, self-help projects, etc. Any church that focuses on these secondary things above the primary things of Christ, has lost their first love, and need to re-orient themselves. (Besides, you cannot do these other things well if you do not make the gospel your number one priority).
