I, John, your brother and companion in the suffering and kingdom and patient endurance that are ours in Jesus, was on the island of Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. (Revelation 1:9)
The apostle John related to other Christians in humility and love. He does not refer to himself as their “father” because he was one of the original apostles. Rather, he refers to himself as a “brother and companion.” He, like they had suffered through the recent persecution of the Roman empire with “patient endurance.” The mutual sufferings of these early Christians created a bond of love between them. So should they should do to us today.
