Isaiah 1:29 Every Idolater Will Be Ashamed Some Day

Surely [m]you will be ashamed of the [n]oaks which you have desired,
And you will be embarrassed at the gardens which you have chosen. (Isaiah 1:29 NASB)

I am no scholar, but other commentators tell me that this verse is a reference to idolatrous practices. So in the day that Israel repents she will be ashamed of all of her past sins, especially the days when she served pagan gods. Note the words “chosen,” and “desired” here. These verbs display how deliberately the children of Israel left the loving God who brought them into the land of Canaan for the imaginary gods of the pagans.
