Isaiah 1:21- Spiritual Prostitution

How the faithful city has become a harlot,
She who was full of justice!
Righteousness once lodged in her,
But now murderers. (Isaiah 1:21 NASB)

The city of Jerusalem had become a “harlot” in God’s eyes because she had been groomed to be a place of worship of the one true God, and instead became a place of sin. The principle in this verse can be applied to the entire human race. We are all “prostitutes” in a sense because we were created for God’s pleasure, to give Him our praise, and instead we turned away and committed sin.
