“But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.” (James 1:25)
At first the headline for this blog post, like the verse above, seems to contradict itself. How can action be required if you are truly free? The answer is that obeying your lusts rather than the word of God is not freedom. It is bondage to sin. The Law of Freedom lets you break out of the powerful chains of sin, giving you, a sinner, the ability to choose righteousness. This kind of change requires action. If you only listen to the Bible but do not do what it says, you are still a slave to your disgusting sins.
But God, through His infinite grace and power, will change those who obey Him.
