“But the rich should take pride in their humiliation—since they will pass away like a wild flower. 11 For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed. In the same way, the rich will fade away even while they go about their business.” (James 1:10-11)
The world teaches us that it is a great honor to be rich. It is what everyone wants; even those who say they hate the rich. But the Bible teaches us that riches are an humiliation. God gives people riches and power on this Earth in order to bring them down again and show them how little they are in comparison to Him. This will be humiliating.
If you are a rich Christian you are supposed to “take pride” in this humiliation. Why? Because when you lose all your money God is glorified. But when you keep your money and your power, people glorify you instead of God. Therefore true Christians should be able to lose all their money and still “consider it pure joy” (James 1:2)
