Why Jesus Hasn’t Come Back Yet

“But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” (II Peter 3:8-9)

Many people think that Jesus will not keep the promise of His return because it has been 2,000 years since He walked on Earth and He hasn’t come back yet. However, 2,000 years is really not a very long time from God’s perspective. Using the formula we are given in this passage, it is equal to about 48 hours in human reckoning! Don’t worry: Christ will most certainly come back to judge the world. But in the meantime He is waiting in order that as many people as possible might be saved.
