God disciplines His children: He punishes everyone else.

“However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name. 17 For it is time for judgment to begin with God’s household; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God?” (I Peter 4:16-17)

God loves everyone and wants them to repent of their sins. Those who repent of their sins and believe in His Son become part of God’s family. He will discipline them by allowing difficult circumstances in their lives. But ultimately, these difficult experiences will be beneficial to them, resulting in eternal reward.

But those who reject God’s commandment to believe in Jesus will not be lovingly disciplined by God. They will be punished eternally for disrespecting His son.
