“this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also—not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God.[e] It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22 who has gone into heaven and is at God’s right hand —with angels, authorities and powers in submission to him.” (I Peter 3:21-22 NIV)
Jesus Christ is the cornerstone of our salvation. Many people, some claiming to be Christians, constantly attack the Biblical perspective of who Jesus is. We must not surrender to them. If we allow our doctrine concerning Christ to be corrupted, our entire hope for salvation will be in jeapordy.
Here are three truths that Peter emphasizes about Jesus:
1. He is risen from the dead. If he were not risen than there would be no hope that God would rescue us from sin and death (I Corinthians 15:17)
2. He is ascended into heaven.
3. He is at the right hand of God. This means that God has accepted His sacrifice. He is acting as our High Priest, making a way for penitent believers to approach God without fear of punishment for our sins. (Hebrews 10:11-12)
4. God has given Him all authority. Some day He will manifest this authority when He comes back to Earth.
