True Christians have living hope that is based on truth, and it shows in every aspect of our lives. We are able to love and care for other people even when they do not love us back because of our hope. We are able to dedicate ourselves to our marriages, be satisfied with our lives, and rejoice in times of great difficulty because of our hope.
But it is not enough for us simply to live our lives in a hopeful way: we need to take the time to verbally explain to other people where this hope comes from. Our life style testimony will do not good to those who do not understand the source of our hope. Therefore the Bible says:
Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. (I Peter 3:15)
We need to not just act on our hope, we need to talk about it. We need to tell everyone (including those reading this blog) that the reason for our hope is Jesus Christ. We know that we are wicked, shameful sinners, but Jesus died for us, the perfect substitute for our sins. God has promised that those who truly believe in Him and repent of their sins will not have to go to hell, and will spend eternity in perfect fellowship with God.
This is our hope. This is why we can smile in times of fearful trouble: because we look forward to an eternity with our loving Creator.
